Fun facts about the Crab

Crabs are known to walk sideways because of the way their leg joints are arranged, though some species can move in any direction. They have compound eyes on stalks that they can retract for protection. The coconut crab, the world's largest land invertebrate, can climb coconut trees and crack open the nuts with its powerful claws. Crabs communicate by drumming and waving their claws in species-specific patterns.

Carving the Crab

The Crab is one of the trickier carvings in the set. Its silhouette has multiple thin appendages and concave areas that require precise knife work to score well.

Save your Peeks — you will likely need at least one. Clear the large background areas first with the gouge, then switch early to the chisel and knife for the fine details. Rushing here leads to over-carving.
