Fun facts about the Duck

Ducks' feathers are coated with oil from a preen gland near the tail, making them completely waterproof. Ducklings imprint on the first moving thing they see — usually their mother — within hours of hatching. Ducks have a wide field of vision of nearly 340 degrees thanks to the placement of their eyes. A mallard's distinctive quack only comes from the female; males make a soft raspy sound.

Carving the Duck

The Duck offers a moderate challenge: it has both broad areas to clear quickly and fine details that reward a careful hand. Start with the gouge on large negative-space areas.

Switch to the chisel for the mid-range details, and finish any thin protrusions with the knife. Use a Peek if you lose track of the proportions.
