Fun facts about the Fox

Foxes use Earth's magnetic field to judge distance and direction when pouncing on prey hidden under snow. They are the only member of the dog family capable of retracting their claws like a cat. A fox's home range can span up to 50 km², and they remember the location of hundreds of food caches. The Arctic fox can survive temperatures as low as −70°C without shivering.

Carving the Fox

The Fox is one of the trickier carvings in the set. Its silhouette has multiple thin appendages and concave areas that require precise knife work to score well.

Save your Peeks — you will likely need at least one. Clear the large background areas first with the gouge, then switch early to the chisel and knife for the fine details. Rushing here leads to over-carving.
