Fun facts about the Gorilla

Gorillas share 98.3% of their DNA with humans. A silverback gorilla can lift more than 10 times its own body weight — roughly 800 kg. Gorillas build a new nest to sleep in every single night, constructing it fresh from branches and leaves. They have unique nose prints, just as humans have unique fingerprints, used by researchers to identify individuals.

Carving the Gorilla

The Gorilla is one of the trickier carvings in the set. Its silhouette has multiple thin appendages and concave areas that require precise knife work to score well.

Save your Peeks — you will likely need at least one. Clear the large background areas first with the gouge, then switch early to the chisel and knife for the fine details. Rushing here leads to over-carving.
