Fun facts about the Horse

Horses can sleep both standing up and lying down, thanks to a "stay apparatus" in their legs that locks joints with minimal muscle effort. They have the largest eyes of any land mammal and nearly 360-degree vision. Horses are incapable of vomiting due to a powerful valve connecting the esophagus to the stomach. A horse's teeth take up more space in its skull than its brain does.

Carving the Horse

The Horse is one of the trickier carvings in the set. Its silhouette has multiple thin appendages and concave areas that require precise knife work to score well.

Save your Peeks — you will likely need at least one. Clear the large background areas first with the gouge, then switch early to the chisel and knife for the fine details. Rushing here leads to over-carving.
