Fun facts about the Turtle

Some sea turtle species can live over 100 years, and the oldest known tortoise, Jonathan, is estimated to be over 190 years old. A turtle's shell is not a separate home — it is fused to the spine and ribcage and contains around 60 bones. Sea turtles navigate across entire oceans using Earth's magnetic field as a GPS. Turtles existed before dinosaurs, first appearing roughly 220 million years ago.

Carving the Turtle

The Turtle offers a moderate challenge: it has both broad areas to clear quickly and fine details that reward a careful hand. Start with the gouge on large negative-space areas.

Switch to the chisel for the mid-range details, and finish any thin protrusions with the knife. Use a Peek if you lose track of the proportions.
